KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 3 November 2023 – Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC), the sole distributor for Ford in Malaysia, today revealed two new Ford models to the market.
One of the two models revealed at the event, which was held at Bamboo Hills in Kuala Lumpur, is the top-spec Ranger Platinum, further expanding the Ford Ranger line-up.
The New Ranger Platinum takes the Pick-Up to new heights, combining the capability and versatility of Ranger with unique styling and premium features for customers who value outstanding comfort and generous specification to support their active lifestyle and family needs.
“We listened hard to our customers throughout the design and development of the Next-Generation Ranger, and in doing so we reinvented the Pick-Up Truck segment. We’ve seen growth in high-end variants in this segment over recent years, so we challenged ourselves to create a vehicle that provides all of our customers’ wants and needs.” said DJ Simpson, Managing Director, Ford Asia Pacific Distributor Markets.
“The new Ranger Platinum gives customers the chance to have their cake and eat it too - They get the Next-Gen Ranger’s inherent capability with a serious dose of class and sophistication,” said Turse Zuhair, Managing Director, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion-Ford.
New Ranger Platinum is available exclusively in double cab specification and is powered by Ford’s 2.0L Bi Turbo diesel engine, producing 210 PS and 500 Nm of torque. Power is delivered through the Ranger’s electronically controlled part-time four-wheel drive system, combined with 10-speed automatic transmission and an e-Shifter.
“Ranger Platinum is focused on owners who need a truck that combines both premium luxury for the family, and the flexibility of a work truck for their business,” said Ian Foston, Ford chief platform engineer, Ranger.
“We’ve really focused on creating a premium exterior and gold-class interior experience with Ranger Platinum.”
Smart on the outside
Key exterior enhancements include a unique grille, 20-inch alloy wheels (First-in-Ranger), ‘Platinum’ hood badging, Silk Chrome trims, Matrix LED headlamps (First-in-class, Best-in-class), a dampened tailgate which makes lowering the tailgate effortless, and Ford’s ingenious Flexible Rack System (First-in-class), Swing-in-Place Roof-Rails and Power Roller Shutter. New Ranger Platinum will also be available in the Equinox Bronze paint colour4, previously available only on Everest.
“From the new hero paint colour to the design of the 20-inch alloys and the premium Silk Chrome trims, we wanted Ranger Platinum to look like a luxury vehicle,” said Max Tran, Chief Designer, Ford Ranger.
Smart on the inside
New Ranger Platinum boasts premium appointments, like quilted leather accented seats and a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, 12-inch infotainment screen with the latest SYNC®4A, B&O speakers, ambient lighting, E-Shifter and Active Park Assist 2.0. The front seats are heated and ventilated (First-in-class) with 10-way power adjust and with memory function for the driver (First-in-class), while the digital instrument cluster and decorative finishes add to the sense of opulence when you get behind the wheel.
New Ranger Platinum sets itself apart from other Ranger variants with its Everest-inspired dashboard which features a closed shelf and upper glovebox, while badging on front seats and floor mats round out the interior enhancements.
“From the high-quality leather accented seats to the Everest-inspired dashboard, the Ranger Platinum oozes refinement,” said Nick Eterovic, Chief Interior Designer, Ford Ranger.
Built for work, family, and play
New Ranger Platinum is every bit as versatile as its siblings. It will come with Ford’s Flexible Rack System, a sliding sport bar that is adjustable to fit longer items.
The roof racks feature roof rails that swing across the roof when needed, can be adjusted to two different lengths, and then stored away in the roof rails when not being used. The clever Flexible Rack System can be operated by one person and locks into five different positions along the length of the load box. A pop-up crossbar increases the height of the loading platform to match the Swing-in-Place Roof Rails.
“The Flexible Rack System has been tested to the same durability standards as Next-Gen Ranger itself and redefines how customers can use their Ranger for work, family, or play. It’s just another example of Ford’s unlimited thinking,” said Nik Tribhuvan, senior engineer, Special Vehicle Engineering.
